EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR - POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

The Organization  For more than 30 years, Cutchins has provided residential and outpatient programs, community services, and special education to children (and their families) experiencing emotional and behavioral challenges brought on by trauma and/or mental illness.  This work is closely coordinated with the child’s family and service network and helps to stabilize behavior and then transform painful childhood, adolescent, family, and biological challenges into lifetime resilience and hope.  Staff longevity is a striking feature throughout the Cutchins Programs.

Services are provided in various settings:

-Northampton Center for Children and Families  - This residential program provides a therapeutic milieu for 11 children ages 8 to 21 years in a community setting with educational and clinical facilities on the grounds.  The children live in three houses in an established residential neighborhoood, serving seven or eight each, and develop positive relationships with resident counselors.  Organized around the principles of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), clients receive individually focused treatment plans, counseling, behavioral structures and close supervision as well as individual, group, and family therapy and psychopharmacological consultation.  In addition to typical home-life activities such as homework, personal care and chores, the children participate in group meetings, on- and off-grounds social and recreational activities, and work to repair behavioral problems.  Family involvement is considered essential.  To assist children and families in the transition home after residential services, NCCF has a step-down program.

-New Directions School  is a 12-month substantially separate Special Education day school serving the 22 NCCF residential studens and 8 Special Education day students.  While adhering to Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks, instruction is individualized and fosters creativity, self-esteem and a sense of community.  The social/emotional curriculum is integrated into the school experience.  During the summer, students participate in interactive academic or work opportunities on campus and in the community.

-Three Rivers provides year-round residential care for 12 children ages 5 to 12 who need long-term clinically-intensive mental health treatment.  On a three-building campus in Springfield, the program provides a highly structured environment in which children can engage in normalizing experiences.  Opportunities for families to alter conditions which contribute to the emotional difficulties of the child are central.  Based on a Milieu Therapy and Trauma-Informed model, the program includes individual, family, art and recreational therapies, clubs, psychopharmacological services, and health care under contract with the Central Office of DMH.  Three Rivers is JCAHO accredited.

-The Children’s Clinic is Cutchins’ outpatient component.  The mission of the Clinic is to match the most traumatized and disturbed children with the most experienced therapists working in a collaborative clinical team.  It offers a welcoming environment to more than 350 children and families experiencing a broad range of emotional and behavioral challenges including the consequences of severe trauma.  The Clinic provides 11 highly experienced clinicians working in a collaborative clinical team.
