NORTHAMPTON CENTER FOR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES
REFERRAL INFORMATION
Northampton Center for Children and Families (NCCF) provides intensive residential treatment for twenty-two children and adolescents and eight day students (ages 8 through 21 years) with emotional challenges.
Twenty of the twenty-two residential beds are funded by the Department of Mental Health. Referrals for those 20 beds are made by the Department of Mental Health. For the two beds not funded by the Department of Mental Health contract, referrals can be made directly to the Program Director, Jay Indik (see Contact Information). All residents attend our New Directions School and a referral to Jay Indik from the sending school district is required.
Referrals for day studentship should also be made directly to the Program Director, Jay Indik.
THREE RIVERS
REFERRAL INFORMATION Three Rivers serves twelve, seriously emotionally disturbed children, ages 5-12. All of the beds are under contract with the Department of Mental Health and all referrals must be made by the Department.
THE CHILDREN’S CLINIC
REFERRAL INFORMATION
Referrals to the Children’s Clinic for outpatient therapy or evaluation
Referrals to the Children’s Clinic involve some phone screening and your patience in waiting for a return call from the Clinic Director. To refer a child between the ages of zero to 18 years, call the main Clinic number (587-3265) and talk briefly to one of our two office administrators, Marla and Barbara, who will take some simple information and verify that the Clinic has providers who can bill your insurance. You may also contact the clinic here.
This initial information will then be given to the Clinic Director, Cynthia Monahon, or Lisa Barondes, a senior-level social worker, who will call you within the week to review your concerns and needs and look to making the right match between your child/family’s specific needs and one of the clinicians on staff. If we do not have the correct expertise available or the wait for appropriate services would be too long, we will try to refer you to other specific clinicians/agencies who will be able to meet your needs.
Referrals for neuropsychological assessment
Referrals of children for neuropsychological evaluation with Dr. Judith Souweine may be made by telephone to either of our office administrators, Marla and Barbara at 587-3265 or contact here. During the initial phone call, they will review the procedures for getting an evaluation underway, issues of payment, and current length of wait. Rate-setting is not accepted at the Children’s Clinic for neuropsychological evaluations.
Referrals for psychiatric evaluation and medication monitoring
The Children’s Clinic has a few hours weekly of child psychiatry time reserved for our young clients who are involved in on-going psychotherapy at the Children’s Clinic. Referrals of children for psychiatric consultation with Kim Gaitskill, M.D., are only accepted from staff therapists at the Clinic. Delays of numerous months are common between time of referral and the date of a first consult for our clients.
